On Saturday the White House issued a statement that appeared to side with critics of the Acts.

It said: “While we believe that online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global internet.”

    Wow, how unexpected!

While listening though some of the great 25c3 podcasts, this had caught my attention:

The Thai censorship mechanism came in originally to defeat child pornography. In the passed year 1203 web pages that had been censored by the government - all of them state that the reason was criticism of the king, there have been none in the past year that were censored on the base of child pornography. Even though that is why the censorship system had been introduced.

Denmark has a system, Sweden even has a system, Switzerland has a system, UK has a system, Australia is about to introduce a system. The core mechanisms for censorship are sweeping across the world right now and western societies might end up like Thailand if everyone is not really careful.
